Happy Leopard Day to all Mac users! (To others, Happy Pavarana Day, Angam Day, and St. Demetrius Day!)
I'm going to wait to install Leopard on my older PowerBook, especially since I still use Classic. Luckily, I have a Mac tower it can go on, plus my mom has a MacBook. :)
Who's gonna install it? Tell me your upgrade tales! Are you going to wait? Are you looking forward to cursing all weekend? Let me know in our Forum thread.

Roughly Drafted on Jim Cramer, Engadget, and Gizmodo
|
|
In case you missed it, there's an interesting read on Daniel Eran Dilger's Roughly Drafted...
snippet...
"Sites like Gizmodo and Engadget require lots of silly ideas per day to stoke enough web-click traffic to pay for their existence. Both commonly pilfer legitimate discoveries and reporting done elsewhere without properly attributing those sources. That's okay for Digg, because credible sources are not demanded by the armies of Digg users who flock from one tantalizing bit of guesswork to the next merely for entertainment purposes."

VMware Fusion vs VirtualBox vs Darwine vs Boot Camp vs Parallels vs CrossOver Ma
|
|
Anonymous Happy Mac writes "Hello,
I have written a small piece on my blog about the solutions to run
Windows software through virtualization and emulation on X86 Mac.
Here is the link!
The Title : VMware Fusion vs VirtualBox vs Darwine vs Boot Camp vs
Parallels vs CrossOver Mac
a snip of the post:
A good friend ask me a couple days back what I thought was the best
solution when it comes to running Windows applications on his new X86
Mac. The first thing I ask him was, is there a equivalent native
application that will do the job for you? As I have always believed
native applications and games are always the best solution in the end.
His reply was ummm... no not really, so I thought I would dig around
and see what solutions were available at this time to run Windows
applications on a x86 Mac.
In my opinion the best virtualization solution would be xen but if you
read the EULA in OS X it forbids virtualization. So until the fine
folks at Apple Inc change there minds about virtualization xen is
going to be out of the question.
But this solution isnt without its problems, there would still be the
intigration problems and you would require a windows license...

Serious Editing in iPhoto 5 eBook released
|
|
Anonymous Happy Mac writes "Serious Editing in iPhoto 5 is the first comprehensive manual dedicated entirely to use of the powerful editing functions added in iPhoto 5. iPhoto 5 itself is lean on instruction, so this step-by-step manual fills the gap with over 2 dozen fixes for common issues and over 2 dozen effects that can be accomplished with iPhoto and what's already on every Mac.
Fixes include: how to correct lighting temperature including fluorescent lighting, using iPhoto's Retouch tool to remove dirt from scans/eliminate wrinkles/etc, filtering images for better tone and less noise in black and white conversions, correcting serious exposure problems, minimizing the harsh look of on-camera flash, removing stubborn redeye, reducing color artifacts, restoring old color prints, improving phone cam photos.
Effects include: solarization, posterization, thermograms, negatives, silhouettes, toning black and white, monotoning, extreme sepia, newsphotos, selective blur, double exposures, image masks, soft focus, warping, mirror images, collages.
The eBook is a pdf that's hyperindexed for fast access to the how-to the user needs at that moment and hyperlinked to dedicated websites for up-to-the-minute information. It's $24.95 and includes lifetime upgrades as more is added, as iPhoto improves and as the Mac OS is upgraded. Serious Editing in iPhoto 5 can be purchased at http://www.booksthatdontgobad.com/EditinginiPhoto.html Secure purchases with major credit cards through PayPal.

Happy Birthday Macintosh!
|
|
Today, 21 years ago, way back in 1984, the mighty Macintosh was launched! And as part of the celebration our friends at MacWorld UK are reporting that a collective of German Mac fans have digitized the only surviving video tape of the launch.
The quicktime movie captures some insanely great images... Jobs' bow tie, pulling the Mac out of the bag and setting it up, an impressive demo of the Mac's graphics, and the legendary moment the Macintosh speaks. It's a remarkable event in Mac history, don't miss it.

Strange Flavour Games Now Available to PC Users.
|
|
A fun press release from our friends at Strange Flavour... (who btw have just released ToySight Gold, and the AirBurst Extreme update.)
New York -- January 20, 2005 -- Freeverse Software, a leading publisher of Macintosh entertainment products today announced that the award-winning Mac titles developed by Strange Flavour are now fully playable by PC users.
Available immediately, Freeverse is offering a conversion box that allows full compatibility of ToySight Gold, Airburst Extreme and other great Mac-only games with users' existing PC hardware. Only two inches in height, this reasonably priced converter takes up little space on the desks of clutter-conscious gamers.
Aaron Fothergill, managing director of Strange Flavour has said, "We've had a ton of emails from PC users demanding that we make Airburst Extreme and ToySight Gold available to them. We've spent, oh, minutes worrying about it while concentrating on writing more great Mac games and we're glad that advances in technology have made this converter available. "
Ian Lynch Smith, president of Freeverse has said, "Mac owners are fairly used to not being able to play some popular PC games and generally take it all in stride, but PC users who have been clamoring to play ToySight Gold and Airburst Extreme have been much more vocal. I'm very pleased that we finally have a hardware solution for Strange Flavour's PC-based fans."

Caught on film! Woz covered in blood!
|
|
Don't worry, it's all in good fun! Steve Wozniak has a cameo role in a short film being produced for the film festival circuit. The film is called Gotham Cafe, and is based on the story "Lunch at the Gotham Cafe" by Stephen King. Woz plays the character "Irate Diner" and is also one of the producers of the film.
Looks like Woz and the crew have been having great fun on the set. Read more for a shot of Woz in character. Warning, the movie is a Stephen King story, so there's lots of fake blood. :-)
